Founded in 1966, the Santa Cruz Island Reserve has become an internationally valued site with an outstanding history of supporting research and teaching. The Reserve facilitates and supports scientists, teachers, students, and other visitors from around the world and provides them with accommodations and vehicles for transport throughout this amazing island and its diverse habitats.
Due to its success and the resulting saturated visitation, SCIR has outgrown University resources and is now increasingly dependent upon private support. Today, increased funding is needed for staffing, operations and capital improvements to ensure SCIR’s future management and to continue to provide safe and accessible experiences and opportunities for students and researchers.
